My friends told me recently I always say that every band is amazing, but I come from the Thumper school of thought (go ahead call me a goody-goody): If you can’t say something nice, don’t say nothin’ at all…because really, if you’re putting yourself out there, more power to you, but that isn’t to say I’m going to listen. I guess you could call me a musical romantic…eternal optimist and glass half full listener, but let’s face it, why would I share bad music when you want new, good music! Since I pride myself on consistency (as well as my advanced listening palate – oxymoron?) I’d like you to meet another crush, the German trio, A Little Nothing…
Now I guess I could get all technical and explain in musical jargon why I feel thatthese guys work to my taste, but honestly, sometimes it’s just “love at first note”. When I’m aimlessly roaming the internet machine in search of something that will satiate my longing for just the right song to put on a mixtape, a lot of times, I don’t necessarily know what I want. At times like that I go on about my business all the while living by the old saying, “When you’re not looking for it, it finds you”…or something like that. Sometimes you find it in the most obvious of bands, and sometimes, like me tonight, you find it in a band that appeared out of nowhere having just released their EP this month (if you didn’t get the hint: A Little Nothing just released theirs, entitled DM).
So maybe I got all musically romantic under the pretense of offering a new band “heads up”, but whether my friends accuse me of claiming most of the bands I discover are amazing or not, there’s rarely a moment where they walk away after listening questioning my taste…and trust me I’m a lot pickier than I look.
